Community Update: Friday, September 12, 2025

Dear Families,

Thank you for another beautiful week at Glebe Collegiate.

We look forward to sharing our Friday update with you.

Learning Opportunities

We are offering learning support sessions! Students will have the opportunity to earn an additional credit if they attend a majority of sessions.  Parents can sign students up for literacy support, numeracy support, homework help, or organizational skill support at this LINK

Each opportunity happens once a week beginning in October.

Oral Reading Fluency Support

All grade 9 students will have the opportunity to do an oral reading fluency diagnostic test as part of the work we do to support literacy.  This will occur during class over the next three weeks.

Student Photos

Student photos are taking place this Monday and Tuesday.  These photos are used for the school ID that acts as a library card and ID for discounts at our local retailers. Students will be brought down by class; students on spare will have a set time in the announcements. Please do not wear royal blue clothing as it interferes with the background. (The cards and photo proof packages for families should arrive before the end of the month.)

Parent Council

Our Parent Council meeting takes place on Monday, September 15th at 7pm in the library. The library is on the first floor of the school.  This week we will be having elections.  Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you there.

Glebe Wear

We will be selling Glebe Wear before the Parent Council meeting at 6:30pm in the library.

Bus Passes

For families that have been asking for Presto passes but don’t qualify because of distance there is a possible option available for persons who are below the low income threshold.  Please click on the link below for more information. https://www.octranspo.com/en/fares/reduced-fares/equipass

Multilingual Book Club

The Multilingual student Book Club is starting on Wednesday, September 17th at lunch in the Library HUB. All students in ESL CO, DO and EO are welcome to join. We’ll be choosing a book and meeting once a week to read together.

Fall Into Reading BINGO Challenge

The Library Fall Into Reading BINGO Challenge starts on Monday, September 15th and ends on Friday, Oct. 10th. Students can pick up a BINGO card from Ms. Barber in the Library to participate. Students can complete a horizontal, vertical, diagonal line or the whole card. Once they finish their card, they are encouraged to complete a form in the Library Google Classroom to be entered into a draw to win a book. All students are welcome to join.

Student Accident Insurance

Creating a caring and safe environment for our students is our top priority. Unfortunately, despite all reasonable precautions being taken, accidents can still happen. Some injuries may result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans and caregivers become responsible for these expenses.

The OCDSB does not provide student accident insurance and encourages all caregivers to consider purchasing accident insurance or student accident insurance for incidents that may not be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) or any additional medical plans they have.

Student accident insurance is available for purchase, on a voluntary basis. Caregivers may apply online at insuremykids.com or call 1-800-463-5437. The accident insurance coverage options range from $17.00/year to $33.00/year. All plans provide 24/7 coverage and a variety of important accident benefits (benefit limits differ based on plan selected). If you have any questions, please call Jones DesLauriers Ottawa (formerly Binks Insurance Brokers) directly at 613-226-1350.
